05A/W “Arts & Crafts” 3/4 layered distressed top

The 2005 Autumn/Winter “Arts&Crafts” collection perfectly captures Undercover’s ethos – a blend of grunge and couture.

The name itself reflects the essence of the show: creating, layering, and letting each garment’s true beauty emerge from the crafted darkness.

Ripped pants were patched up, then distressed again. Tops underwent intentional distressing, then received another layer, to be finally distressed again. Dark makeup added to the looks’ intricacy, giving rise to a strong identity of rebellion against the norm.

Jun seems to say, “Give me something beautiful; I’ll make it ugly,” echoing his famous “we make music, not clothes” slogan found on some of the collection’s T-shirts. An improvement from the Scab reconstruction concept? Undoubtedly. Wearable yet infused with couture craftsmanship? Absolutely.

Arguably one of Jun Takashi’s best collections and a personal favorite. This quadruple 3/4 top is quite something. Only one on the market in this colorway, and it comes with the detachable scarf. The scarf is impressively long, adding layers to this already amazing piece.

Though this top has faded in the front, it only adds to the vibes, making this piece more desirable. It will only get better with time.
