UNDERCOVER 03AW “PAPER DOLL” Reconstructed Coat
Jun takashi went away from his usual anarchist messages in AW03 « paper doll » and proposed something lighter to the crowd. Once again demonstrating amazing craftsmanship quality, Jun used multiple DIY techniques inspired by dolls the young kids would play with. Raw and unfinished edges, coupled with different materials give to this collection two ways to be read. At first sight, models looked to be wearing elegant (at least in a children eye) clothes, but revealed a different aspect when looking at the back where an entirely different aesthetic was created from rebuilding vintage sweaters together (among other things).
Maybe, people at vogue didn’t understand his subtle message then. Jun probably had a hidden message in this collection, showing that things can look cute and innocent on a first glance, but while looking deeper, might have a darker meaning. Those hoodies often carried messages about wars, dark market and other things you wouldn’t associate with a child. Some pieces even had Ben Laden and George 2 bush printed on it in a camouflage way. Another way, maybe for Jun, to say there is always 2 sides of the same coin.
